Currently available in all local shops or from www.Knockmealdownactive.com is a beautiful new publication which relates the stories of the many legends of the area. This is the first in a series of graphic novels from Eamon Cowan a participant in the Tús programme which are planned to be published. The themes for these publications will all be based around the Knockmealdown area and will include folklore from Ballyyporeen, Clogheen, Ardfinnan,, Goatenbridge and Newcastle and all the places in between that make up the area that Knockmealdown Active is trying to promote as a sustainable tourist destination.
Resulting from an initiative undertaken by South Tipperary Development Company, a group was set up locally with the hope that it could play its small part in halting the decline in the area. The group that was formed became known as Knockmealdown Active and this multi-community initiative’s aim is to promote the natural beauty, amenities, resources, culture and heritage of the towns and communities along the foothills of the Knockmealdown Mountains. The strategy is to awaken awareness and engender an appreciation of this scenic area in both locals and tourists alike. In tandem, there is an ultimate aim to boost local trade and create sustainable employment in these locations.
