The Tony Ryan Fund for Tipperary ‘Supporting children and young people to reach their full potential’

Children don’t come with instructions, and parenting isn’t easy . Being a good parent takes patience, experience and knowledge that often come from lessons learned by trial and error. Any parent who is honest will admit that their child can try their patience and drive them to their wits end.

Considerable evidence shows that a positive, consistent bond between parent and child leads to more positive communication and parenting, and a more socially competent child. The Incredible Years Parenting Programme  provides   positive  approaches to increasing a parent’s skills and confidence and encourages positive behaviour in their child. Research shows that children with solid social skills will perform better in school and later in life.

The Tony Ryan Fund for Tipperary was established by the Tony Ryan Trust through The Community Foundation for Ireland.  The fund aims to improve the life experience of children & young people living in County Tipperary.

The South Tipperary Childrens Services Committee  promotes planning and coordination in service provision for children and young people so as to secure better outcomes in terms of their welfare, wellbeing and development.

An interagency group, under the South Tipperary Children Services Committee applied for this unique opportunity under the Tony Ryan Fund for Tipperary and were successful in being allocated a grant to deliver the Incredible Years Programme  over a 2 year period into schools and communities across South Tipperary. South Tipperary Development Company is the lead agency for this funding contract.

To-date, a series  of Teacher Classroom Management Programmes have been delivered to Teachers from Primary Schools across South Tipperary. Parent Group Leader training programme and Parenting Programme are currently being rolled out in Tipperary, Clonmel, Cashel and Slieveardagh.

The South Tipperary Incredible Years Programme is strongly linked into and supported by agencies and organisations working in communities.  We hope that this community based approach will provide parents with the confidence to take part in the Incredible Years Parenting Programme within their own community.
