Personal Development Support Programme: Time for Change

In June 2019 SICAP provided a 36-hour personal development programme to 12 people who wanted to improve their personal wellbeing and self-confidence.

Eight participants completed the programme.

Seven individuals were unemployed, and one individual was a participant on the Tús programme.

Before the programme started, the participants who registered to participate in Time for Change Programme worked with their SICAP officer to review their employment, education, and personal development goals.

All of those that participated received follow up supports either by phone or face to face intervention from the SICAP Development Officer.

Course Outcomes and Progression

There were very strong individual outcomes achieved for those who successfully completed the programme. These included:

  • Progression into employment
  • Return to education
  • Developing life skills e.g. completion of driver theory test
  • More awareness of local services and involvement in the community
  • Increase energy, overall positivity, enthusiasm, and assertiveness
  • Improvement in personal life e.g., setting healthy routines.

I enjoyed my time here in the course. My train of thought was black and white. I thought I wasn’t going anywhere but now I see the bigger picture and now believe I can achieve anything. I know how to set goals and ones that are doable rather than plan goals that are out of my league.

I did the course at a time of great stress and challenge in my life. There is no doubt that it gave me the confidence and skills to manage my situation. The learnings from this have made me a more confident and positive about what I can achieve from life
